How Is a Tooth Removed?

Before our dentist in Lockport, NY performs an extraction, Dr. Kaplansky will administer a numbing agent so that you don’t feel any pain during the procedure. He will then use forceps to gently rock the tooth back and forth in your mouth until it comes loose. The wound at the extraction site will be carefully closed, and you’ll be given instructions for proper at-home care during the healing process. Dr. Kaplansky may also prescribe medication to help with any soreness experienced after the extraction.

Can you place implants immediately after extractions?

When this step is complete, your dentist attaches a dental crown over your replacement root to give you a new tooth.

If you do not have immediate tooth placement, your dentist may opt to provide your new crown after the root has integrated with the bone; this usually takes several months.
